It’s no secret that I love beautiful interiors as much as I enjoy good food so when somewhere combines the two so well I’m a happy bunny.
We first visited The Ivy London on our first wedding anniversary and loved the great food and relaxed atmosphere and that’s here in the York restaurant in spades. The food was so tasty and actually more reasonably priced than we imagined, given it is a famous celebrity hot spot. We were sat next to Tony Robinson and Nancy De'lellio...ok not exactly Tom Cruise but still, it must be good if the hoy paloy turn out to eat there.
It was all very well organised for these Covid times with an automated temperature scanner on entry, hand sanitiser on every table and plenty of space between tables. We were sat upstairs overlooking the hustle and bustle of York below us.
We were invited to try the Eat Out To Help Out scheme which offers £10 pp off the 2 or 3 course set menu. For such yummy food it was very reasonably priced but even without the offer we felt it was great value.
As it was my birthday we enjoyed a few drinks from the beautiful bar, including a lovely Sipsmith mocktail an Eldeflower cocktail and an Iced peach and lemon tea. Both came beautifully presented.
So me, the Herbivore ordered Jackfruit & Peanut Bang Bang salad, which was such a lovely sweet, sour crunchy combination, followed by the Keralan sweet potato curry. It reminded me so much of our South Indian travels.
The Carnivore had smoked salmon to start, followed by the crab linguine with chilli flakes and oil. Crab always feels so decadent and obviously when we go out is the only time he has it.
We both had the awesome chocolate bomb for dessert. It’s pure theatre and the most decadent dessert. We highly recommend it even just for the envy inducing looks we were getting from other diners.
It’s so good to get back to eating something we haven’t had to cook again. I've really missed dining out and it seems the Eat Out to Help Out scheme has really helped people get back out there.
