Galle is the administrative capital of the south and has an interesting mix of architecture from its various occupations, including the Portugese in the 16^th century, the Dutch and the British. Much of the building and infrastructure is Dutch, including the intricate canal system, which makes it an interesting melting pot of styles.

Sri Lanka is well known for its food, culture and stunning scenery as I've written about here, here and here but it is also home to a fascinating array of wildlife and jungle. Being avid wildlife lovers we were keen to see all types of fauna in Sri Lanka and we had always wanted to do a safari so our driver recommended taking us to Yala National Park. This was before we did an African safari so we were unsure what to expect but we had heard it was home to wild elephants, leopard, bears, crocodiles and many other species.

Our driver told us to buckle up and prepare for a slightly bumpy ride to our next destination, Nuwara Eilya, or Little England as it’s affectionately known.

Whilst at our base in Negombo which I wrote about here we visited the many travel agents in the area to ask about exploring the country. Another tourist couple we met had just returned from a tour of the island with a driver and recommended him highly.

Sri Lanka is without doubt one of the most fascinatingly alluring, diverse and culturally thirst quenching countries I have been lucky enough to visit. I’ve wanted to write this post for a while but a recent conversation with two different people about this place prompted me to lay it down in writing.
