It’s been quite the foodie
month for me which kicked off with being invited to the always brilliant BBC
Good Food Show in Harrogate.
Not only was it jammed to the rafters with yummy
Yorkshire produce to try but it also saw Michel Roux Jr, Tom Kerridge and
Lorraine Pascale, who is a favourite chef of mine, giving cookery
demonstrations and inspiring talks.
It’s pretty special to see chefs of that
calibre doing their thing and it ignited my passion for cooking again. I took
away many ideas that I’ll be sharing on this little old blog of mine very soon so
watch this space…
Then I heard that there was
a new Farmers Market on the block at Beverley’s newest retail and leisure
destination, Flemingate, so couldn’t resist checking it out. I grabbed my
purse, a friend and her adorable little baby for company and we set out into
the sunshine to see what it was all about.
After all of this wet
weather we’ve been having it was nice to enjoy such a beautiful day, so first
things first we pulled up a warm pew at the children’s play area and let the
baby loose whilst we caught up.
I’d heard the Farmers Market
was only in its second month, and after a little walk around we discovered it
is small but perfectly formed compared to the major Food Festivals that take
place in the town but by the time we arrived, it was already creating a nice
bit of buzz down the pedestrianised street.
Soon the most amazing smell
wafted over and we had to go check it out. An Indian street food stall
tantalised us with some aromatic freshly cooked curries and a range of Indian
snacks. For £5 they provided a snack box full to the brim with spring rolls,
bhajis and the most golden crisp samosas. After smothering them in delicious
yoghurt and mint sauce and exclaiming how good they were, I insisted my friend really should give them a
try, Srriously!.
As we ducked underneath
brightly coloured awnings to check out the treats on offer, we came across a
fantastic cider stall that looked so refreshing on a hot day but after finding
out that sadly there wasn’t an alcoholic free version for me, I will have to go back
in the future to give it a sample.
Next on our foodie journey was the Kettlecorn NYC stand that offered every flavour and variety of popcorn you could imagine. From hot jalapeno to chocolate there is something for everyone and I’ll let you into a little secret, if you ask nicely, they’ll let you try every single one of the flavours…

Then out of the corner of my
eye, I spied a sight which tempted me in. If you’ve ever visited the Cheescake
Factory in Las Vegas, then you’ll know why I was very excited by discovering The
New York Cheesecake Company.
They know how to do the most amazing varieties and
massive slabs of cheesecake, with the red cherry and almond and gooey kit kat
flavours winning the day for me. I bought both but already knew that whether
the Carnivore had a preference or not, we would be splitting them both.
Stocked up with some of the
top picks from the Farmers Market, we set off into the sun with our candy cane
carrier bags.
We really liked that there
are some different stands to what you usually find at Beverley’s Wednesday and Saturday
markets and it definitely adds something fun to Beverley’s newest shopping area
but it would be nice to see it grow as time goes on.
